Donor Letter - CARES Act

To our Mater Dei supporters,

These are difficult times for everyone. We find ourselves in uncharted waters while the need for quality secondary education remains. In order to keep fulfilling our mission, we need your help. We want to let you know about a few key provisions of the 2020 CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act. This law extends into 2021 and is designed to help you, businesses, and nonprofits facing economic hardship during the coronavirus pandemic.

This CARES Act provision allows all taxpayers to take a charitable deduction of up to $300 ($600 for married couples filing jointly), even if you do not itemize. You might think that this is a small amount and would not make a difference. But what if all of our donors gave "just" $300? Such support would have a huge impact on those we serve. Qualifying donations must be made in cash or cash equivalents (as opposed to stock, for example) and cannot be directed to supporting organizations or DAFs.

For those who do itemize their deductions, the new law allows for cash contributions to qualified charities such as ours to be deducted up to 100% of your adjusted gross income for the 2021 calendar year.

We are so grateful for your generosity, which affects so many of our student's lives. Please contact me at mhertel@evdio.org or 812-421-5727 to discuss how your gift can help make an impact on the students and families we serve.

Sincerely,

Mallory Hertel
